Service Outage Planned for Friday, August 29th

Update for Sunday, August 31st at 4:30 p.m.

Operations staff tied the two sides of the system together at the culvert project site. It is no longer necessary to conserve water. Customers may resume normal usage. A boil notice has NOT been issued.

Customers may see bubbles/air/sediment in their water due to the volume fluctuations over the last few days, especially near Riverview Avenue. This should dissipate in the next day or so.

We appreciate your patience during this part of the project and all the efforts to conserve water over the last two days.

10:30 p.m. Update and Request to Conserve Water

No boil notice has been issued for the district. Our operator was able to maintain positive pressure in the system and those customers who were without water today were turned off at the meter, so there is no risk of contamination at this time. However, the system is split in two with the southern third of the district being supplied by the reservoirs and the northern two-thirds with water produced at the plant. Staff will be trying to tie-in the two sides of the system tomorrow.

In the meantime, all MWD customers should conserve water. Avoid the following until further notice:

• Washing cars

• Watering lawns/using sprinklers

• Spraying-off or pressure washing your driveway or walkways

• All other water-consuming activities that can be postponed or are unnecessary for health or hygiene

Additionally, the northern section of the system should avoid sudden spikes in consumption by staggering water use. For example, do not run your dishwasher, washing machine and take a shower at the same time.

The district appreciates the understanding of its customers during this time, especially those in the business district and the southern end of Riverview Avenue who were without water for most of the day.

Service Outage Update for 6:00 p.m.

The contractor for Lane County is continuing to work on the mainline. It may be several more hours before they are finished. Once they are finished, district staff will need to do flush the line before restoring service to the homes and businesses in the area immediately surrounding the culvert project. Customers in the northern 2/3 of the district should continue to conserve water. The equipment currently maintaining pressure on the northside seems to be functioning without issue.

Service Outage Update for 1:30 p.m.

As of 1:00 p.m. the contractor for Lane County is continuing to work on district mainlines at the Riverview Culvert project. Our operator was able to repurpose some of the district’s existing equipment to help maintain positive pressure in the northern 2/3 of the district. If we are able to maintain positive pressure for the duration of this part of the project, the district will decide whether or not a boil notice is necessary once this work is complete. MWD asks that customers in the northern 2/3 of district limit water usage until work on the mainline has been completed later today.

Service Outage Planned for Friday, August 29th:

Customers in the northern 2/3 of the district will be temporarily without water service beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday. This will affect customers beginning at the business district and continuing north. The contractor expects the outage to last approximately 5 hours.

Once pressure has been restored, customers who lost pressure will be under a boil water notice until test results confirm that their water is safe to drink. Due to the holiday weekend, the district anticipates these results towards the middle of next week. Below is a map of the affected area.
